Pre concept

Here we go: the first concepts.

What's missing:
- different colour museum route
- different direction arrows museum route
- maybe icons on more locations?

What could be improved:
- quality icons (I did this in photoshop and the JPEG Kim Thy send was fairly small)

  1. Okey, here's my take on what we have so far:

First of all, the pictures seem really out of place.
Perhaps a little background around them could help but I think we need to figure out exactly what pictures we want there and why. Will we link them to locations on the map with or without arrows?
Perhaps some blurring or stylizing with photoshop filters can help maken them stand out less.
Also: we need more emphasis on the culture/ commerce difference. Maybe not just the pictures but also the way they are taken, camer angles etc.

Next: the landmark 3D building icons. They are absolutely beautifull, however, they cover mostly the musea. Maybe we need some shops there instead of the churches on the commerce map. The first impression I get (ignoring the pictures) would be: oh culture. We should somehow change this.

The other icons: serve their purpose in showing what can be done but are dwarved by the 3D buildings. Perhaps we can make all the musea in this style on the commerce map and all the shops this style on the museum map?

The route: obvious and clear. Perhaps we can do a bit more manipulation to make people walk the right way by slowly fading the colour from the beginning to the end? So when you get to the crossroads at the station, you have this one road that's 100% coloured and one road that's 50% coloured and you automatically choose the bright one without looking at the arrows. Just a random thought.

Anyway, we have the our first impression of what we came up with during our meeting. Now we can think about ways to improve it. The only thing that really needs to be changed before handing in are the arrows and colour of the route.

  2. Sorry I couldn't upload the photoshop file. It was way too big obviously.
